Sustainable Consumption

What does sustainable consumption mean? When we talk about sustainable consumption, we are talking about buying everyday things, from food to clothes, in a sustainable, or eco-friendly way. This means looking for products that are packaged in recycled packaging, or even better, with no packaging. When we buy local, organic produce that we take come in reusable bags, we are consuming sustainably. Many of the common products that we buy today are transported from overseas in plastic and paper packaging. This not only creates pollution, but can also create a lot of waste if the packaging products are not recycled. Sustainable consumption is an important concept to apply to our own lives if we want to have a clean environment, free of pollution and waste.

How do we start to consume sustainably? By living by the 3R's, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! By reducing everyday waste, reusing old clothes, bags and toys, and only buying products that are packaged with materials that can be recycled, we can make a difference. You can even take it one step further and buy local or Australian made produce which reduces carbon emissions caused by importation transport. The opportunities are endless.

About this WebQuestThis WebQuest has been designed to open your eyes to the ways that we can consume sustainably. We are hoping to encourage the students of Ecotown Primary School to reduce the waste that we create on an everyday basis, and to become more conscientious consumers. Several tasks have been set in place to introduce the students to a new way of thinking, and to apply these new concepts in practical ways. Head to The Quest to begin.
